Sponsorship: Q & A Q: What is DSA Alberta? The Disabled Sailing Association of Alberta (DSA Alberta) was incorporated in September 1994 as an Alberta Society and a Revenue Canada Registered Charity (139262208 RR0001). DSA Alberta's mission is to provide disabled Albertans with the opportunity to access and enjoy sailing activities while promoting enhanced independence and community involvement. Executive powers and budget authority rest with the Board of Directors of DSA Alberta. The Board of Directors meets regularly to set policy, plan programming, and oversee DSA Alberta's operations. As a Registered Charity, annual Financial Statements for the Society's operations are available upon request. In 2006, our 12th season of operation, DSA Alberta is running two major projects: 1. DSA Alberta - Glenmore Sailing Program has operated successfully on Glenmore Reservoir in Calgary as a permanent program, and has provided access to over 1,000 children and adults with disabilities in Calgary and the surrounding area. 2. DSA Alberta - Learn-to-Sail Camps delivers services to other Alberta communities by assisting children and adults in other towns and cities in Alberta to travel to Calgary to partake in Learn-to-Sail Camps during July and August. DSA Alberta also partners with agencies serving the disabled in any community, to offer sailing programming in Alberta's towns and cities. When they're ready, DSA Alberta will assist motivated groups to establish new DSA chapters that provide permanent programming in their area.Q: If I make a donation, where will my money go? If not specified, your donation will be considered general revenue and support DSA Alberta's day-to-day operations and programs. If you wish, you may direct your donation to support a number of specific capital equipment (boats, lifts, lifejackets, etc.) or operational expense (insurance, staff wages, communications, etc.) categories. You may also make an in-kind donation of a product or service. For tax purposes, the value of your in-kind donation must be a "market value" and may have to be determined by independent appraisal. Q: Will I get a tax receipt? All donations made in cash, cheque or credit card receive a receipt acknowledging your contribution to DSA Alberta. You will automatically receive a Charitable Tax Receipt for donations of $25 or more, or by request for smaller amounts. We'll mail this receipt to you within four weeks of receiving your donation, made out to the name and address as shown on your cheque. Revenue Canada rules do not allow us to provide a tax receipt for donations that result in a direct benefit to you, your family or the company you work for (i.e. a donation to pay for your son's sailing fees). Similarly, if a Corporation "purchases" advertising or specific recognition at a public DSA Alberta event, this is deemed a Marketing expense by Revenue Canada, and Dsa Alberta will provide the Sponsor with an invoice for the value of this service.Disabled Sailing Association of Alberta: 139262208 RR0001 Q: How will I be recognized for my support? Sponsors of boats and equipment are recognized through corporate identities on our Martin 16s. All of our Sponsors - large or small - are recognized on www.dsaalberta.org, in our publications and brochures and on the Sponsor Board at our Glenmore Reservoir Program. And you may, of course, choose to make an anonymous donation. E-mail the Business Manager for more information on how to Sponsor DSA Alberta's Programs. |
