"opportunity, accessibility, independence"
Commitment to Safety!
DSA-Alberta staff and volunteers are oriented and trained to work with people with disabilities,
covering awareness, lifts and transfers, and the safe use of equipment.
Hydraulic lifts and slings are used for safe transfers of persons with limited mobility.
All sailors wear PFDs and carry radios that allow them to stay in contact with our staff.
Staff and Volunteer Orientation & Training
Every season, our dedicated DSA Alberta staff and over 100 volunteers contribute to the safe operation of our daily programming. Providing comprehensive orientation and training for our staff and volunteers is a key component of our focus on safety. Our program includes Volunteer Orientation days, a Staff & Volunteer Training Guide covering all aspects of our operations, qualifying Volunteers for Sailing Companion role, and providing "hands-on" training during the season.
Liability Release and Medical Information
Participants in all DSA Alberta programs (members, clients of community partnership events and all volunteers) complete a Release and Assumption of Liability and a Medical Information and Release. Completed forms are kept on file in the DSA Alberta office. Information provided on the Medical Information and Release form is confidential and will only be used to assist in the event of an accident, injury or medical emergency, and to identify emergency contacts, parents or legal guardians, etc.
